Dame Whina Cooper

Dame Whina Cooper and the land-march. She is 79  and she is māori and she was a teacher at pawarenga native school. Whina Cooper was a Maori activist in New Zealand. She fought for the Maori to keep access to their land as well as for equal access to vital services, such as healthcare, housing, and education. For her dedication to the protection of the Maori and their land, Cooper was often called Mother of the Nation.Born: December 9, 1895, Te Karaka.
